Lalín → Silleda
The Taboada bridge and the Deza
A short and easy stage, 15.5 kilometres with 180 metres of ascent and 260 of descent, low difficulty, walked in a morning. From Lalín you have to rejoin the route at A Laxe or Prado and follow tracks between meadows and hamlets to Bendoiro, with the main road on one side and the railway on the other. The going is dirt track and local road, with gentle switchbacks.
The best of the stage is in the middle: the descent to the river Deza and the Taboada bridge, medieval, a single stone arch over a small gorge, one of the loveliest spots on the Camino Sanabrés. You cross it and climb, short but sharp, to the hamlet of Taboada, and from there follow a string of hamlets among oaks and chestnuts, with Trasfontao close to the finish.
Silleda is a town with every service, known for its agricultural fair, the Semana Verde. There are hostels and places to eat. As you arrive early, the afternoon leaves time to rest or to go, with transport, to the fervenza do Toxa, a big waterfall a few kilometres from the town.
Tips
It is short: set off unhurried after breakfast in Lalín, but fill your bottle, because there is little before Silleda.
After the Taboada bridge the climb is short but dry: take it calmly.
Stamp your departure in Lalín, along the way in Bendoiro or Taboada if anything is open, and your arrival in Silleda.
If you arrive with time to spare, Silleda is a good place to wash clothes and check your feet before the finish.
