Langosteira beach and the lighthouse

The stage that reaches the end of the world is short and is walked slowly: 15 kilometres with 260 metres of ascent and 250 of descent, low difficulty. You leave Cee along the harbour promenade and in little more than a kilometre you are in Corcubión, a seafaring town with arcades and houses bearing coats of arms. From there you climb by steps and path to Vilar, the only serious slope of the day, and drop back to the coast through Amarela and Estorde beach.

Sardiñeiro, around the halfway point, is the village to stop in; afterwards the path runs among pines, with the odd stretch of road, until it looks out over Langosteira beach, a strand of almost two kilometres that you can walk along the sand, barefoot if the sea allows, before entering Fisterra through the San Roque district and going down to the harbour.

But the stage does not end in the town: there are still about three kilometres of road, past the church of Santa María das Areas, to the lighthouse, where the kilometre-zero marker stands and the camino ends. It is worth leaving your pack in the town and going up in daylight, ideally at dusk, when the sun sinks into the sea.

Tips

Departure stamp in Cee, two en-route stamps in Corcubión and Sardiñeiro, and the arrival stamp in Fisterra, at the municipal hostel or the tourist office, where you can also ask for the Fisterrana.

Langosteira beach is optional: if the tide is high or there is a storm, stay on the upper path, which runs parallel.

The three kilometres to the lighthouse are on a road with traffic; walk on the left-hand verge and, if you come back after dark, with a head torch.

Don't burn anything at the lighthouse: it is forbidden and the wind carries everything away. If you want a ceremony, let it be the sunset.

Short as the stage is, Fisterra is windy and turns cool as the sun goes down: take something warm up to the lighthouse.

Walk with me

It crosses where you are with the time, the daylight left, the water, the beds and the notice board. Three things at most: the ones that actually change your afternoon.
