Alberguería and A Limia
Another big stage, 34 kilometres with 900 metres of ascent and 700 of descent, high difficulty, with the steepest ramp of the Camino Sanabrés in the first half. You leave Laza along the flat valley, passing through Soutelo Verde and Tamicelas, a hamlet about seven kilometres out. From Tamicelas the climb to Alberguería begins: some five kilometres of mountain track gaining more than four hundred metres among oaks and scrub, with very steep sections and not a metre of respite.
Alberguería is a small hamlet up on the heights, where something is usually open, and afterwards the route runs along the high ground, undulating, before dropping towards Vilar de Barrio at about kilometre twenty, the only village of the day with shops and everything you need. From there you enter the district of A Limia, flat and full of irrigated fields, and the way runs on tracks between Bóveda, Padroso and other hamlets, with the odd short climb at the end.
Xunqueira de Ambía is a small village gathered around its Romanesque collegiate church, whose cloister and Baroque organ are worth a visit. There is a hostel and the basics for supper; not much more.
Tips
Have breakfast in Laza; there is nothing dependable until Alberguería, and not always there either.
Water from Laza or Tamicelas: there are no fountains on the climb.
Eat and shop in Vilar de Barrio, the only sure halt of the day.
Poles: the climb is steep and the end of the stage, with tired legs, still has a rise or two.
The climb to Alberguería is short but very steep: do it in the cool, in the first hours of the morning.
